2017 Papillon, Ruppert-Leroy
Papillon is one of two wines Ruppert-Leroy produce from the Fosse Grely lieu dit, which was the first planted by Bénédicte's father. She and her husband, Emmanuel, inherited the vines in 2010 and Ruppert-Leroy was born. Today they run the small but exceptionally high-quality biodynamic 4 hectare domaine in the Aube. Since their first vintage they have excelled, and their wines are now regular name-checks on the best wine lists. Like all of their wines, this has zero dosage. The name takes its inspiration from the remarkable biodiversity found here, where 30 species of butterfly have been recorded on the steep rocky slope sheltered by a forest.
