100% Chardonnay. Rodolphe Péters has been making the wines here since 2007, taking over from his father. He is the fourth generation of his family to do so, and the Péters name is one of the most respected in the world of grower Champagnes. They started bottling their own wines as early as 1990, and have built up a loyal following over the past three decades. The domaine is now 20 hectares, and whilst many growers have pursued single vineyard and single variety expressions, Rodolphe favours blends. Les Chétillons is a blend of three parcels of old vines in Le Mesnil sur Oger Grand Cru. A very rare find in magnums.

The 2011 Brut Cuvée Spéciale Les Chétillons is just as impressive today as it was when I tasted it earlier this year. Ample and deep, especially within the context of the year, the 2011 is terrific. There is plenty of depth to the citrus and floral-laced flavors to support at least medium-term aging. There is no question the Chétillons is one of the very best Champagnes of the year. There are no green or herbal notes present today, but I also would not push my luck on aging.
