2013 La Côte aux Enfants Champagne, Bollinger

2013 La Côte aux Enfants Champagne, Bollinger

This cuvée made its first appearance with the 2012 vintage. It is the only Bollinger Champagne sourced from a single plot, grand cru La Côte aux Enfants in the village Aÿ. It’s a steep-sided 4 hectare vineyard established by Jacques Bollinger between 1926 and 1934. This historic piece of land has two defining features: the south slope, which had been vinified as a still red wine (coteaux champenois), and the north-west slope, which was previously used exclusively to blend into La Grande Année Rosé. Now these Pinot Noir vines have emerged as a source of a hugely exciting single vineyard vintage Champagne, revealing Bollinger’s knack for making a vinous, Burgundian style of sumptuous Champagne. The wine was fermented in oak barrels and aged for 7 years on its lees.
