2009 Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs, Champagne Ruinart

2009 Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs, Champagne Ruinart

The wine is refined and poised, with the inviting scent of spring flowers, with a lemon and salty twist, followed by a smooth palate that marries creamy, silky texture with vibrant zing and acidity. In essence, it has the perfect balance you’d look for in a vintage Blanc de Blancs. Much of the fruit comes from the Côte des Blancs, Chardonnay’s heartland, from the grand cru vineyards in Cramant, Avize, Chouilly, and Les Mesnil-sur-Oger. But importantly, 18% of the blend comes from the northern side of the Montagne de Reims, a region usually associated with Pinot Noir. Here, the grand cru vineyard of Sillery is the only one outside the Côte des Blancs where Chardonnay predominates, thanks to its south-east facing aspect and chalky soils. 4g/l dosage makes this, technically, an Extra Brut, though the label says Brut.
