2008 Brut, Krug

2008 Brut, Krug

The 2008 Krug is long anticipated, and tasting this tiny release, it's clear to see why. There's lots of citrus on the nose, with a distinct sherbet character, and plenty of pure fruit, too. There's a real sense of energy and drive to this Champagne, which has an abnormal amount of Pinot Meunier in the blend: 25%. Krug have dubbed it "Classic Beauty", but a more literal translation of the French sobriquet "élégance intemporelle" would be timeless elegance, which seems to be slightly more befitting of this charming Champagne. It's a wine that won't blow you away immediately, but rather that builds and seduces, amazing with complexity, purity, and precision.
