2019 Chinon, Les Varennes du Grand Clos, Domaine Charles Joguet

This is the domaine’s ‘newest’ parcel, bought in 1976. Located near the cellar, in the south of the Chinon appellation, this is like a mini Clos de la Dioterie, on deep clay-limestone soils with colluvial topsoil. It typically shows great balance between tannins and acidity, and in 2019 has great poise. The tannins are already smooth and silky in texture, and glide through onto the floral finish.

2019 Chinon, Les Varennes du Grand Clos, Domaine Charles Joguet
Domaine Charles Joguet

Domaine Charles Joguet is a name that will resonate with many who have enjoyed their remarkable wines from the 1980s. After a period in the wilderness during the ‘90s, the Domaine has returned to its very best under the dynamic team of current owner Anne-Charlotte Genet, and winemaker Kevin Fontaine. Charles was one of the first to spot the potential of individual plots in Chinon, and each of the domaine’s wines is carefully crafted to best show off its unique origins.
