2011 Chaume les Onnis, Coteaux du Layon, Domaine des Forges

An intense lemon-gold hue hints at the heady aromas in this lovely cuvée. Elegant candied-orange notes provide a vibrant scent, accompanied by honey, bruised apple, and spiced notes. The palate has that wonderful nervy acidity that can be associated with this excellent domaine and gives a brilliant lift and clean mouthfeel. There is citrus peel and pink grapefruit, with delicious sweetness and a hint of nutty nougat on the finish. Unbelievably good value.

Domaine des Forges

Situated in a beautiful corner of the Loire Valley, Domaine des Forges is a producer who makes superb wines from a range of different sites on both sides of the River Loire, with an impressive 47 hectares of vines throughout the Coteaux du Layon and Savennières. Stéphane and Severine Branchereau now run the domaine, with the jewel in their crown perhaps their holdings in the newly designated Grand Cru, Quarts de Chaume.
