2019 Gewürztraminer, Albert Boxler

More than any other variety, Gewurztraminer is a love-it-or-hate it grape. But anyone who claims to not like it should know they are missing out in this example. It has that classic and seductive rose petal and lychee note on the nose, which is undeniably aromatic. But the palate has such an impressive mineral tension and a long, concentrated finish - not too sweet - but weighty enough to pair well with one of the world’s toughest food matches: oily fish, particularly smoked salmon. Trust me! It’s a remarkable pairing.

2019 Gewürztraminer, Albert Boxler
Albert Boxler

With vines in the key Grands Crus Sommerberg and Brand, it’s no wonder Boxler is one of the most respected names in Alsace. In the area since 1673, history and family are omnipresent here: incumbent Jean Boxler’s grandfather assumed responsibility after World War II, and his cousin designed the label that same year, in 1946. Based in Niedermorschwihr, Jean and his family vinify parcels within each cru separately, for precise, vintage-driven wines which age better than any.
