2010 Condrieu 'Coteau de Chery, M. Chapoutier

2010 Condrieu 'Coteau de Chery, M. Chapoutier

The fruit for this wine comes from one of the oldest vineyards in the Condrieu area. The schist soil brings a lovely, fresh minerality to the white-flower-dominated nose, with just a hint of smokiness in the background. The palate is equally fresh and surprisingly savoury, with a hint of truffle oil adding complexity to the soft and creamy texture. The tell-tale Viognier stone-fruit character is there, but plays second fiddle to the spicy and savoury complexity. There is great length of flavour, making this Condrieu a potentially excellent companion to a pork loin stuffed with peaches and sage.
