2019 Saint-Joseph Les Granits Rouge, M. Chapoutier

This comes from old vines in the southern part, the original heart, of the St Joseph appellation, on the opposite side of the river to Hermitage. The soils here are poor and stony. A long vinification draws out complex flavours and a sophisticated tannin structure to promise good ageing potential. Meaty, deep, and satisfying.

2019 Saint-Joseph Les Granits Rouge, M. Chapoutier
M. Chapoutier

The name Chapoutier has long been associated with the northern Rhône thanks to the calibre of their plots around the region, but it was only once Michel Chapoutier took control of the family business in 1988 that quality accelerated it to become the world-class concern it is today. Michel Chapoutier is undoubtedly one of the greatest winemakers of our time, and has successfully extended his business to include vineyards in the Roussillon, Alsace and Australia. But his Northern Rhône Syrahs and Marsannes of exquisite quality remain the main attraction.
