2017 Côte-Rôtie Lancement, Domaine Garon

Lancement is the highpoint of the Côte Blonde, bordering the plateau. It’s also one of the region’s greatest sites. Just five barrels were made. Very herbal, with cured meat, pepper and spice. Lovely silky tannins, mineral and saline, and the fruit is just so elegant and so appealing.

2017 Côte-Rôtie Lancement, Domaine Garon
Domaine Garon

The Garon family have been landowners in Ampuis for 500 years, but it wasn’t until 1982 that they started tending to the neglected vines on their land. Releasing their first cuvée in 1995, Jean-Francois Garon observed with little irony that "it wasn't bad for the vineyards to rest a hundred years between plantings." Today, this traditional producer makes three wines from the Côte-Rôtie’s Côte Blonde and one from the Côte Brune, all mostly destemmed and aged in a mix of new and older French oak.
