2017 Côte-Rôtie Belle Hélène, Domaine Michel et Stéphane Ogier

La Belle Hélène comes from the lieu-dit Rozier that lies in the northern half of the appellation, on the Côte Brune. Here the mica-schist soils and granite soils produce structured and concentrated wines, with lots of black fruit flavours, and plenty of power to see it through a few decades in the cellar.

2017 Côte-Rôtie Belle Hélène, Domaine Michel et Stéphane Ogier
Domaine Michel et Stéphane Ogier

One of the greatest producers of the Côte-Rôtie, the estate remains a family affair. For years, the Ogiers sold their grapes to Guigal and Chapoutier, but in the 1980s they began to produce their own wine. Stéphane started working along his father Michel in 1997 before taking the helm in 2003. He learned to make wine in Beaune, and the influence is clear: his belief in the importance of ‘crus’ within the Côte-Rôtie and vinification of individual plots leads to wines with considerable finesse.
