2017 Côte-Rôtie La Côte Blonde, Domaine Michel et Stéphane Ogier

This is one of Ogier's most sought-after wines. It comes from the lieu dit La Côte Blonde, which is itself within the southern portion of Côte Rotie that uses the collective name of Côte Blonde. It is highly-prized for its fine, elegant, opulant style of Syrah, grown on the granite and sandstone soils here. Only tiny quantities are made each year.

2017 Côte-Rôtie La Côte Blonde, Domaine Michel et Stéphane Ogier
Domaine Michel et Stéphane Ogier

One of the greatest producers of the Côte-Rôtie, the estate remains a family affair. For years, the Ogiers sold their grapes to Guigal and Chapoutier, but in the 1980s they began to produce their own wine. Stéphane started working along his father Michel in 1997 before taking the helm in 2003. He learned to make wine in Beaune, and the influence is clear: his belief in the importance of ‘crus’ within the Côte-Rôtie and vinification of individual plots leads to wines with considerable finesse.
