2017 Le Passage, St Joseph, Domaine Michel et Stéphane Ogier

2 hectares of vines planted directly on granite, with an average age of 30 years old, gives an impressive St Joseph: one of the best we know. Red fruit, flowers, and a lick of spice. Don’t overlook this.

2017 Le Passage, St Joseph, Domaine Michel et Stéphane Ogier
Domaine Michel et Stéphane Ogier

One of the greatest producers of the Côte-Rôtie, the estate remains a family affair. For years, the Ogiers sold their grapes to Guigal and Chapoutier, but in the 1980s they began to produce their own wine. Stéphane started working along his father Michel in 1997 before taking the helm in 2003. He learned to make wine in Beaune, and the influence is clear: his belief in the importance of ‘crus’ within the Côte-Rôtie and vinification of individual plots leads to wines with considerable finesse.
