2016 Côte-Rôtie Ampodium, Domaine Rostaing

2016 Côte-Rôtie Ampodium, Domaine Rostaing

A blend of 15 lieux-dits across Côte Blonde and Côte Brune (in total 25 plots go into it), this is delicious in 2016. There’s lovely fruit - pure and juicy - with hints of violet and liquorice on the long fnish. This is already lovely.

Tasting notes

I tasted from a barrel that Rostaing said represented something "close to the final blend" of the 2016 Cote Rotie Ampodium. This medium-bodied wine features classic notes of violets, spice and raspberries and has ample flesh covering its silky, tea-like backbone of ripe tannins. It should drink well young.

Cask sample. Vivid stemmy character cutting across the redcurrant fruit on the nose. Superb concentration of fruit on the palate, yet avoids lumbering heaviness via fresh acid and a lengthy, perfumed finish. Savoury soy and aniseed character to finish.
