2012 Saint Joseph Les Grisières, Andrè Perret

M. Perret may well be more famous for his whites than his reds, however this should not trick anyone into thinking the Syrahs from this estate are not special. Produced from old vines (over 90 years old), Les Grisières is a great example of Northern Rhône red, with plenty of meaty, savoury and spicy flavours bringing complexity to the core dark, sweet fruit. Said fruit has splendid weight and a juicy freshness. Powerful and complex yet supremely seductive on the finish, this would be an exciting addition to any cellar.

Domaine André Perret

André Perret makes world-renowned Condrieu from his family-owned domaine, one of the best sites in the region. He took control of the concern, now 4.8 hectares, in 1985 and built a new cellar ten years later. With his wife and two daughters, André makes three wines, the top one from the vineyard Coteau de Chéry. His wines tend to balance richness and freshness perfectly, with classic peach and apricot aromas - the ideal expression of this classic Rhône white.
