2012 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Trois Sources, Domaine de la Vieille Julienne

This old-vine Grenache dominated cuvée is a stunner in 2012. Notes of anise, violet and crushed red fruit combine with an exotic, cool spicy note. Satin-like in the mouth, it will be very hard to ignore over the years to come. Those that can will be richly rewarded as this effortless wine develops with time.

2012 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Trois Sources, Domaine de la Vieille Julienne
Domaine de la Vieille Julienne

One of the most compelling winemakers in the region, the gentle Jean-Paul Daumen has a philosophy of winemaking akin to an artist. Jean-Paul converted the property, which had been in the family since 1905, to biodynamic practices in 1998. His attention to detail and passion for his vines could not be more obvious after just a few minutes in his company. Almost Burgundian in style, here is Grenache winemaking par excellence, right next door to the legendary Château Rayas. They release a year later than other producers.
