2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Cuvée Félix, Domaine Bois de Boursan

A blend of 65% Grenache, 25% Mourvèdre, 5% Syrah and 5% other varieties, all de-stemmed and from 90 year old vines. This really is an amazing wine, offering depth, concentration and sheer class. The aromas include garrigue, liquorice spice and a hint of mint, all encased in an alluring dark currant and blackberry fruit compote. The palate is rich and intense with polished textures and fine, silky tannins; it is a powerful wine offering a great finish, with nutmeg and peppery hints. With time, these complexities will begin to further unravel and it will surely be a treat in years to come.

2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Cuvée Félix, Domaine Bois de Boursan
Domaine Bois de Boursan

The domaine has been in the hands of the Italian Versino family since 1955, with third generation Jean-Paul now at the helm. He takes pride in continuing to create classic, traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with the belief that vinifying with stems and aging the wine for extended periods in large oak foudres gives his wine its unique character. As a result, Bois de Boursan is an exemplary old-school Châteauneuf-du-Pape. There is nothing flashy or opulent here, just wines with great character.
