2010 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Deus Ex Machina, Clos St. Jean

2010 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Deus Ex Machina, Clos St. Jean

Deus ex Machina refers to a plot device used in Greek and Roman drama, whereby a god is introduced by means of a large crane to resolve an improbable plot-line or problem. At Clos St Jean, the name reflects the huge changes that have taken place at the estate since 2002-2003. Much more masculine in style than its Combe des Fous sibling, owing to the higher percentage of Mourvèdre in the blend. Intense, savoury swathes of dark fruits, herbs, roasted meat, grilled mushrooms and pencil-lead. This is a mighty, powerful wine with enormous texture and concentration.
