2009 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Clos Saint Jean

2009 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Clos Saint Jean

The Maurel brothers have a large estate with significant holdings in the famous La Crau vineyard, which forms the backbone of this wine. Produced from 70 year old vines, it has a nose of crushed raspberry, plum and kirsch. This is a dense, layered wine with hints of lavendar and cinnamon, ripe tannins and a lush texture. A serious wine with a reasonable price tag. (Robert Parker: 91-93 points)
