2009 Côte-Rôtie Seigneur de Maugiron, Delas Frères

2009 Côte-Rôtie Seigneur de Maugiron, Delas Frères

This cuvée is a blend of Syrah grapes coming from the Côte Brune (70%) and the Côte Blonde (30%). Deep crimson in the glass, the powerful nose has black-currant, cherry, liquorice and smoky aromas. On the palate, the intense fruit and black tapenade flavours are framed by subtle woody notes and a tightly-knit tannic framework. (Robert Parker: 92-94 points)

With an impressive female winemaker, Claire Darnaud, at the helm since 2010 (though with experience there dating back to 1996), and considerable investment in the cellar to move to the historic town centre, the wines here are some of the more refined in the region. Careful never to use more than 40% new oak, Claire is a master of her craft.
