An old vine blend, largely of Grenache, with 25% Mourvèdre from 90 year old vines. As ever with Jean-Paul's wines, there is a dusky fruit quality on the nose, with notes of sous-bois and game. The palate shows wonderfully ripe deep damsony fruit, expansive and vibrant, with a marked spiciness. There is always a complexity here, even in a young wine, with the wild fruit characters of Mourvèdre melding with the generous spiced raspberry fruit of young Grenache. Mourvèdre performed so well in this vintage, adding interest and valuable freshness. Beautifully elegant, traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
