2005 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée, Domaine du Pégau
Deep in hue, vivid crimson-red to the rim, the aromas here are at once individual, offering savoury notes of roasted meat, a touch of woodsmoke and plenty of dusky fruits. There is a wild accent to the palate, meaty notes meld with provençal herbs, liquorice and fresh, sweetly ripe blackberry and cherry fruit. Slightly peppery, fine, yet sturdy tannins lend density and substance to this tightly packed châteauneuf-du-pape. Dry on the finish, with a cranberry-like twist of acidity. Long, pure and driven, this is simply outstanding
châteauneuf-du-pape.
