2011 Viré-Clessé, Héritiers du Comte Lafon

Made from old-vine fruit, this needs some time to unwind before approaching. Dominique harvests the fruit for this relatively early in order to keep a tense, taut nature. Pure concentrated fruit, with a bright apple-skin character come through on the nose and the palate, where they are joined by layers of stony mineral and creamy oak. A very serious Mâconnais.

2011 Viré-Clessé, Héritiers du Comte Lafon
Domaine des Comtes Lafon

As prices for land in Burgundy’s Côte d’Or become unaffordable, many of the region's greatest names have looked south, to Mâcon or Beaujolais, to expand their holdings. At the forefront of this movement was Dominique Lafon, who bought his estate in the Mâcon in 1999, naming it Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon. Dominique makes wines here with all the care and attention that has made his Meursaults some of the world’s most highly prized wines. They’re a taste of Lafon, at very reasonable prices.
