2024 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre, Samuel Billaud

2024 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre, Samuel Billaud

Samuel’s Montée de Tonnerre is a blend of two parcels, one of which lies alongside that of Raveneau’s. It has a wonderfully spicy scent, reminiscent of ginger. The palate is savoury and taut, with a tingling freshness on the finish. 20% is raised in oak, giving the fruit further breadth.

Tasting notes

Another pale colour. The bouquet indicates just a little more ripeness. This is just exactly what one hopes for from this vineyard. A little more succulence, a little more flesh, but still the classical marine backbone. Drives on at the finish. Excellent. Drink from 2029-2034. Tasted Jun 2025.

The 2024 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru comes from parcels at the top and center of the incline, using vines between 50 and 60 years old. This matured 80% in tank and 20% in 500-liter barrels. It has a sea spray- and nectarine-tinged bouquet that blossoms in the glass. The palate is well defined with a silver bead of acidity. This has a little more depth than the Mont de Milieu. It's very poised and energetic with a lingering, saline finish. This is superb. Again.
