2023 Chablis, Samuel Billaud

2023 Chablis, Samuel Billaud

Samuel’s Chablis is an absolute go-to. It’s a blend of three parcels, picked and vinified separately. Together they contribute complexity, richness, and minerality: that’s a pretty good combination for a Chablis, with impressive depth of fruit and a satisfying, fleshy weight, and its persistent length is clean-cut, saline and refreshing. It’s one of our fastest sellers each year (well worth having).

Tasting notes

A blend of Samuel’s three excellent terroirs, Les Pargues, Cartes-Fontenottes, and Bas de Chapelot. Pale colour. A very classic nose, not too pungently marine, with a depth of fruit, clean clear cut white fruit with a real crispness to finish. The lees work is exemplary.

From Les Pargues, Les Cartes and Chapelot-Bas, the 2023 Chablis Grands Terroirs has a refreshing, quite minerally bouquet with hints of potpourri behind the citrus fruit. The palate is well balanced with a saline entry, and tightening in the middle. A steely, bitter lemon finish. Drink over 3-4 years.
