2023 Chablis 'Vauclaire', Domaine Gilbert Picq

2023 Chablis 'Vauclaire', Domaine Gilbert Picq

The village bottling of Vauclaire is a new wine for Didier, bottled separately for the first time with the 2022 vintage. This is a parcel on the left bank of the Serein River, planted in 1985 and 1986 near Vosgros and Dessus la Carrière. On the nose this is so fresh and vibrant with aromas of chalk dust, white flowers, apricot and almond blossom. A really beautiful Chablis this year.

Tasting notes

Will make a small bottling apart. Slightly paler in colour. Very crystalline. Plenty of fresh yellow fruit on the attack, smoother and broader across the palate, and then a slightly sterner finish with a bit of spice. Coriander? Drink from 2026-2031. Tasted Jul 2024.

The 2023 Chablis Vauclaire has quite a straightforward, direct nose with yellow fruit, perhaps missing the amplitude that graced the previous vintage. The palate is light and agile, with fine acidity. Still, it needs a little more substance to come through on the finish. Probably one of Didier Picq's earlier drinking cuvées.
