2017 Chablis 1er Cru Les Vaucopins, Domaine Long Depaquit

Affectionately known as their “Petite Moutonne” as the vines have the same exposure and soil type as their famous monopole. This is fine and powerful with amazing saline persistence. A wine to buy every year.

The nose on this beautiful wine, from the south-facing Vaucopin’s spot, is simply gorgeous. It’s exactly what we want from Chablis: lemon oil, mandarin rind, crushed rocks and oyster shell, with amazing purity and definition on the finish. Dry, mineral, and so focussed, it’s a brilliant expression (and should come in at many times the price).

2017 Chablis 1er Cru Les Vaucopins, Domaine Long Depaquit
Albert Bichot (Clos Frantin and Long Depaquit)

Founded in 1791, this domaine’s château remains the most impressive in Chablis. Now owned by Beaune-based house Albert Bichot, and benefitting from the expertise of Technical Director Alain Serveau, this is a Chablis domaine on the rise to the top of the appellation. La Moutonne is the wine that the estate is best known for, a monopole in the heart of the Grands Crus, between Vaudésir and Les Preuses. It’s in a natural amphitheatre where the wines can reach stunning ripeness for the region.
