You can feel the character of the poor stony soil found in Puligny here in this wine’s floral, racy delicacy. It has a piercing, slightly spicy intensity accompanied by a tenderness of fruit on the finish. Enticing, with intricate structure and superb definition.
The 2024 Puligny-Montrachet Les Champs Gains 1er Cru has an impressive, reassuringly complex bouquet with crushed stone and flinty aromas underlying the malic fruit. The palate is bright and tensile, more saline than the Meursault Premier Crus with a vivid marine-influenced/oyster shell finish. Not to be ignored!
Pale lemon yellow. Not easy to tease out the bouquet. This comes across as more linear after the Meursaults, but the fine boned citrus fruit extends very nicely across a long finish. Less flesh of course, but that is expected. Drink from 2029-2034. Tasted Oct 2025.
