2024 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, Patrick Javillier

2024 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, Patrick Javillier

50% of the crop was lost in 2024, but what remains is excellent. This is, understandably, the jewel in the crown of this estate. The vines are on the Aloxe-Corton side of the hill, south-facing, with clay/limestone soil. It sees no new oak (instead, the small volume is vinified in one-year-old barrels), so it has a fresh fruit style. It always has that classic Corton-Charlemagne smoky bacon nose, and a palate of profound and concentrated fruit.

Tasting notes

Full yellow, very little nose at first and what I find is more flesh than stones. Plenty of energy on the palate, with an oaky overlay, the stones are sitting beneath but this will not be the most mineral of Corton-Charlemagnes. Drink from 2030-2036. Tasted Nov 2025.
