2023 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Caillerets, Alex Moreau

2023 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Caillerets, Alex Moreau

Cellar Circle Exclusive

This magnificent wine is only made in tiny quantities. There is superb precision on the palate, which is vibrant, concentrated and mouth watering with a chalky structure. This complexity is no surprise, given that Les Caillerets is one of the finest sites in the village, with particularly stony soils, producing tense, vibrant, acid-driven wines.

Tasting notes

The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Caillerets 1er Cru had been on its lees for 14 months at the time of this tasting. It has a fresh bouquet with a strong sea influence, hints of shucked oyster shell infusing the citrus fruit. The palate is well balanced with a slightly peachy entry and notes of apricot and tangerine. The finish is understated yet persistent. Superb.

Tasted from barrel, unracked. The 2023 Caillerets merits a longer elevage and Alex has the space for it in the cellar. Primrose colour, with a peachier element to the nose on top of the little stones. What a starburst of flavour on the palate, really singing in this format. A touch of oak at the back, not unexpectedly, in support of a marvellous wine. Drink from 2030-2036. Tasted Nov 2024.
