2023 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot, Alex Moreau

2023 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot, Alex Moreau

Cellar Circle Exclusive

Morgeot borders Santenay at the south end of the village, and is not only the largest Premier Cru in Chassagne, but the largest cru in the Côte d’Or. Alex’s parcel has the benefit of old vines - 50 years old, and their concentration combined with Alex’s practice of long, slow fermentation has resulted in a smoky, textural, delicious expression.

Tasting notes

The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeots 1er Cru has a tempting bouquet with hints of almond and toffee apple infusing the vibrant citrus fruit—already very seductive and not dissimilar to the Maltroye. The palate is well balanced with a touch of wild peach on the entry. Clementine and even strawberry emerge toward the refined finish. Superb.

From the Fairendes vineyard. Pale colour. A strikingly stylish bouquet in a pure and elegant white fruit. This expands beautifully on the palate, with good weight that sits lightly in its steely frame, and a particularly appetising finish. Marvellous poise throughout. Drink from 2029-2035. Tasted Nov 2024.
