2023 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Grandes Ruchottes, Domaine Paul Pillot

2023 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Grandes Ruchottes, Domaine Paul Pillot

Cellar Circle Exclusive

This, along with La Grande Montagne, is one of the most sought-after cuvées from the Pillot cellar, and produced only in tiny quantities. The vineyard is found in the southern part of the village, right next to La Grande Montagne and La Romanée. The wine is open, opulent and fragrant, with amazing density and powerful drive.

Tasting notes

The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet La Grande Ruchottes 1er Cru has a thrilling nose: animated crushed stone, sliced green apple and citrus peel scents burst from the glass, more powerful than the La Grande Montagne. The palate is well balanced with superb weight and just a little extract, as a resonance of citrus peel mixed with a touch of ginger prolongs the finish. There is so much energy locked into the Chassagne-Montrachet.

Still in barrel. The nose is slightly less in place at the moment, a question of timing. A little oak, a touch of yellow fruit, still the correct structure, but a bit less easy to read today but still with a compact energy. I am scoring it lower than the wine will probably deserve later. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Nov 2024.
