2023 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Blanchot-Dessus, Domaine Jean-Claude Bachelet

2023 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Blanchot-Dessus, Domaine Jean-Claude Bachelet

Cellar Circle Exclusive

There are many who consider Bachelet’s Blanchot-Dessus on par with its Grand Cru neighbours, Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet and Le Montrachet. The vines were planted in 1927, and this old-vine wine has the presence and stature of its Grand Cru neighbours. Its shyness in youth will be transformed into majesty with age. There is a profound texture to the wine with flavours of apricot, honeysuckle, and oystershell. Put it away for a few years to see what it can really do.

Tasting notes

The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Blanchot-Dessus 1er Cru plays with a subtle reduction on the nose. It has good intensity with more complexity than the other Chassagne Premier Crus. The palate is fresh and saline, combining a twist of sour lemon mixed with desiccated orange peel. It's a little short on the finish compared to the 2022, yet it still exudes class.

Mid lemon yellow. While there is an immediate suave richness to the fruit, the stones poke through. Beautifully balanced with grace and energy, a few lemons interspersed with a raft of orchard fruit, brilliantly persistent yet with nuances all the way through. Keeps coming back. Drink from 2029-2036. Tasted Oct 2024.
