This vineyard is widely regarded as one of the finest in the village. The white pebbly limestone soils make for racy wines, sharing much in common with the best Puligny-Montrachets, but with the nutty, savoury twist of Chassagne. Old vines give it a richness and density setting it apart.

The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Caillerets 1er Cru has a nicely detailed bouquet of crushed stone and flint that opens discretely with aeration. A light fish scale scent/oyster shell comes through, saline and poised. The palate has a little more weight and girth than the other cuvées, and there is a little more extract than the Clos Saint-Jean on the finish. Bon vin.
Pale lemon in colour. Electric stones on the nose with just a little more perfume round the edges. Lively peach, passion fruit and electric lemon. Very old vines here. The core is magical in its austerity, surrounded by much riper aromatics. Drink from 2029-2036. Tasted Nov 2024.
