2022 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Grande Montagne, Domaine Paul Pillot

2022 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Grande Montagne, Domaine Paul Pillot

Like Les Grandes Ruchottes, this is a highly-prized wine of the Pillot cellar, and made in similarly tiny volumes. The vineyard sits at the top of the hill, and this wine has a cool, restrained composure, with a statuesque presence.

Tasting notes

A pale and even lemon and lime colour. The nose needs a little work as it is obviously all there but not yet speaking. There is such a fine thread of mineral acidity that it keeps what would otherwise be a sensual juicy fruit lively, a mix of ripe apples and some greener fruit. Despite the intensity, the Grande Montagne is not at all weighty - this wine floats. Thierry speaks of its ‘douceur’ while I would pick out its precision. Drink from 2028-2036. Tasted: November 2023.
