2019 Rully Blanc, Maison de Montille

This cuvée is a Lay & Wheeler exclusive in the UK. It’s a clever purchase of négociant grapes that the domaine makes from the Côte Chalonnaise. All the vinification is done by the domaine’s team at their cellars in Meursault. White peach, vivid acidity, and a fine, creamy length.

TASTING NOTES

The 2019 Rully Village is an assemblage of two parcels on a new long-term contract, matured equally in wood and stainless steel. It has a tensile, almost Chablis-like bouquet. The palate is balanced with pretty lime and citrus notes, although it does not quite deliver the same charm as the Montagny.

Domaine de Montille

Charismatic Etienne de Montille has stewarded the family domaine since taking responsibility in 1995. With an enviable selection of vineyards, careful winemaking with the use of whole bunch altered to suit the vintage, and sensitive élévage, it’s no surprise that this estate continues to rise towards the top. With a cellar overseen by the talented, affable American Brian Sieve and his own son joining the family business, Etienne is doing all the right things to ensure the wines thrive.
