2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, Domaine de Montille

This Corton-Charlemagne is all about fruit: intense and luscious, with a thrilling freshness. The texture is bold and silky: it is everything you’d hope from this outstanding grand cru. The weight is powerful, but never heavy; it holds its frame well, and retains a brilliant energy.

TASTING NOTES

The 2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, which comes from de Montille’s south-facing vineyards, is relatively early-picked. It has a tightly wound nose that has difficulty following the Chevalier-Montrachet (even though that was reduced!) The palate is well balanced with a harmonious entry, slightly waxy in texture as a Corton-Charlemagne should be, although it feels quite linear and strict on the finish.

Domaine de Montille

Charismatic Etienne de Montille has stewarded the family domaine since taking responsibility in 1995. With an enviable selection of vineyards, careful winemaking with the use of whole bunch altered to suit the vintage, and sensitive élévage, it’s no surprise that this estate continues to rise towards the top. With a cellar overseen by the talented, affable American Brian Sieve and his own son joining the family business, Etienne is doing all the right things to ensure the wines thrive.
