2015 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos St Jean, Domaine Paul Pillot

From the vineyard just up the road from the winery, often better celebrated for its red wines, this is stunning in 2015. It’s rich and generous, but still maintains freshness and great energy. The finish is precise, with a lemon oil character and floral notes adding complexity.

2015 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos St Jean, Domaine Paul Pillot
Domaine Paul Pillot

Thierry Pillot is one of the most exciting white winemakers in Burgundy today. He and his sister, Chrystelle (who’s married to Arnaud Mortet of Gevrey Chambertin), have elevated this previously overlooked domaine to one of the stars of Chassagne. With excellent holdings in both Chassagne and St Aubin, Thierry unashamedly makes wines to suit his own palate. He loves taut wines, with fresh flavours that show their origins. And he hates the flavours of oak.
