2014 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Caillerets, Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard

The Caillerets vineyard is made up of two plots, the higher ground's white soils offering minerality and the lower ground's rich clay providing sumptuousness and intensity of fruit. Grapes from both soils are evident in the 2014 vintage. Huge potential with this cuvée, with masses of concentration working in perfect harmony with the pure and fresh acidity. This is a knock out wine, and one to watch.

2014 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Caillerets, Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard
Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard

One of Burgundy’s most charming domaines, Fontaine-Gagnard is run by Celine Fontaine, with her parents Richard Fontaine and Laurence Gagnard. Richard founded the estate when he married Laurence: his first vintage was 1985, produced from his inlaws’ vineyards. However, this nearly never happened: the first time they met, he almost misidentified the 1978 Montrachet, the estate’s crown jewel, as Aligoté, due to its high acidity. Fortunately he kept his mouth shut, and Fontaine-Gagnard was born.
