2013 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Grande Montagne, Domaine Paul Pillot

No new oak on this wine, which has more than a hint of Grand Cru Chablis about it. Smoky and limey with notes of fresh bread and white flowers, it is precise and chalky on the palate with layers of citrus fruits and minerality. Kudos must go to Thierry for creating such a wine.

2013 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Grande Montagne, Domaine Paul Pillot
Domaine Paul Pillot

Thierry Pillot is one of the most exciting white winemakers in Burgundy today. He and his sister, Chrystelle (who’s married to Arnaud Mortet of Gevrey Chambertin), have elevated this previously overlooked domaine to one of the stars of Chassagne. With excellent holdings in both Chassagne and St Aubin, Thierry unashamedly makes wines to suit his own palate. He loves taut wines, with fresh flavours that show their origins. And he hates the flavours of oak.
