2012 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Grande Montagne, Domaine Paul Pillot
Thierry Pillot took the decision to use little oak in this cuvée this year, and the result is impressive. On the nose it is super-fresh, mineral and pithy, and this follows on the palate – this is a hugely minerally wine, yet it is endowed with plenty of soft fruit and volume. Lean, precise but in no way austere, this almost makes one think of Grand Cru Chablis rather than Chassagne. Very elegant and delicious.
