2011 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru, Domaine Leflaive
This has a gorgeous, beguiling nose which is totally addictive and just gets better and better. The level of complexity is astonishing, but it is the purity of fruit that is just so joyous. White peach, greengage, lemon peel and the merest hint of ginger are present, with an underlying mineral, smoky note. On the palate, you are greeted with fantastic attack, then mouth-coating levels of extract, almost staining your mouth with a permanent impression of the wine. Though a monumentally big wine, it is incredibly elegant and shows unparalleled levels of refinement.
