2010 Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, Grand Cru, Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard

With holdings of a third of a hectare, Fontaine-Gagnard have a considerable proportion of this tiny Grand Cru. A brooding nose tinged with tropical fruit and a whiff of smoke, the palate shows its weight and structure without being overbearing, lovely and fresh with perfect poise. There is already a sense of completeness to it.

2010 Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, Grand Cru, Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard
Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard

One of Burgundy’s most charming domaines, Fontaine-Gagnard is run by Celine Fontaine, with her parents Richard Fontaine and Laurence Gagnard. Richard founded the estate when he married Laurence: his first vintage was 1985, produced from his inlaws’ vineyards. However, this nearly never happened: the first time they met, he almost misidentified the 1978 Montrachet, the estate’s crown jewel, as Aligoté, due to its high acidity. Fortunately he kept his mouth shut, and Fontaine-Gagnard was born.
