2008 Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, Grand Cru, Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard

Criots is a tiny and so rarely seen Grand Cru, which produces a more refined and feminine wine than its burly neighbour Bâtard. Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard owns nearly a quarter of the vineyard and produces its best wine.
This has a marvellous refinement, with great pitch and lovely acidity. Outstanding, with real concentration and performing considerably above its status.

2008 Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, Grand Cru, Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard
Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard

One of Burgundy’s most charming domaines, Fontaine-Gagnard is run by Celine Fontaine, with her parents Richard Fontaine and Laurence Gagnard. Richard founded the estate when he married Laurence: his first vintage was 1985, produced from his inlaws’ vineyards. However, this nearly never happened: the first time they met, he almost misidentified the 1978 Montrachet, the estate’s crown jewel, as Aligoté, due to its high acidity. Fortunately he kept his mouth shut, and Fontaine-Gagnard was born.
