2024 Volnay 1er Cru Les Mitans, Michel Lafarge

Cellar Circle Exclusive

This parcel, right in the centre of the village, has been owned by the Lafarge family since 2005. It has an ideal mid-slope position, and produces a floral wine with great tension and an intense fruit core: quintessential Volnay. So pure and long, with a velvety structure, bursting with strawberry aromatics.

Tasting notes

The 2024 Volnay Les Mitans 1er Cru comes from two parcels. This is much more elegant and refined on the nose compared to the Les Pitures with mineral-infused redcurrant and crushed strawberry scents, revealing commendable transparency. The palate is medium-bodied with a keen line of acidity, bright and lively, not structured and maybe just missing a bit of grip and density on the finish. But it slips down the throat easily.

Crimson with a paler rim. The fruit needs coaxing, but out it comes with a little orange touch. This has less velvet but a good raw silk quality to the texture. Fills the middle of the palate very nicely and persists. A wine which should be accessible quite early by Lafarge standards. Drink from 2030-2035. Tasted Oct 2025.
