2024 Auxey-Duresses, Comte Armand

2024 Auxey-Duresses, Comte Armand

New release

Auxey-Duresses is a largely overlooked village of the Côte de Beaune, tucked up above Meursault, next to Monthélie, on the way to St Romain. This anonymity persists in spite of its association with Lalou Bize-Leroy. Comte Armand's vines - in lieu-dit Largillas - sit just above her Les Clous vines. Largillas gives the most spectacular views of the pretty village, and have an enviable mid-slope position for a village parcel. It is always one of the best value and most characterful reds on our list. The 2024 has a wonderful tannin structure, giving the wine backbone and length, but not overpowering the lovely red fruit.

Tasting notes

The 2024 Auxey-Duresses Village suffered less mildew damage due to steep slopes and is aged in around 20% new oak. It has a pleasant nose, good intensity for a Village Cru, potpourri bubbling up amongst the red fruit. Fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with quite thick, grippy tannins, making this feel more like a Premier Cru. Quite compact on the finish, this should fan out after bottling. Very satisfying.
