2024 Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Altitude 421 En Bignon, Domaine Boris Champy

2024 Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Altitude 421 En Bignon, Domaine Boris Champy

The Bignon parcel has red clay soil, not dissimilar to that found in pockets of Pommard. It usually produces an easy-going, fruit-forward wine, but the 2024 has some serious structure in there. It might need a little more time than the Clou, but it will reward the patient.

Tasting notes

The 2024 Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Blanc Montagne 382 has a taut, fresh, sea spray and wet wool-tinged bouquet that gradually unfolds in the glass. Wonderful delineation (comme d'habitude). The palate is vibrant and quite spicy, edgy, the malic acid driving this along with a twist of bitter lemon on the finish. Cutting!

The 2024 Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Bignon 421 has a mixture of red and black bouquet, briar and thyme, with a touch of bell pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy tannins, cranberry and wild strawberry, more austere than the 2023. There's just a bit of reduction to contend with on the finish, but it will be racked before bottling in March next year.
