This clos is a monopole of the domaine found right at the centre point of Gevrey, next to Ruchottes-Chambertin. It always has lots of millerandages (small berries) and so the wine has an intense concentration and exquisite finesse. It’s all red-fruited power and mineral length, typical of senior Gevrey terroirs.

The 2024 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos du Fonteny 1er Cru comes from a naturally low-yielding parcel in more benevolent years, though in this vintage there are just one and a half barrels. It has quite an effervescent bouquet with blood orange infusing the red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a little confit-like with a zesty damson-tinged finish. Lovely.
