2024 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru, Georges Mugneret-Gibourg

2024 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru, Georges Mugneret-Gibourg

Cellar Circle Exclusive

Ruchottes is a fairly small grand cru, just 3.3 hectares in total. The Mugneret-Gibourg parcel is in Ruchottes du Bas, and makes a beautiful wine, with chewy density and a luxurious, voluptuous finish. This is rightly regarded as a high-point in the Mugneret-Gibourg cellar.

Tasting notes

The 2024 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru comprises four barrels this year, two of them new. It has a well-defined bouquet with dark berry fruit, hints of bergamot and stewed black tea (Yorkshire?). This is a little Latricières-like in style. The palate is medium-bodied with pleasing sapidity on the entry. Finely balanced, this gains a little weight although it does not possess the grip or the grandeur that a more benevolent vintage would have provided. Yet I appreciate the spicy undertow and it feels reassuringly precise on the finish. Lovely.
